One of our boys got killed by a weasel last night. The other one is wounded but will most probably live. The girl escaped unscathed, except she’s really freaked out. I’m really sad about it. We’ll see how the couple are doing when they recover… maybe they’ll need a new friend.

Jednoho z kluků včera večer zabila kuna. Druhý je zraněný, ale nejspíš přežije. Holka vyvázla bez šrámu, jenom s pořádným šokem. Jsem z toho smutný. Uvidíme, jak se jim povede, až se zmátoří… jestli nebudou potřebovat nového kamaráda.

Check this out. It’s really funny.  Prague’s Franz Kafka International Airport was named the world’s most alienating airport.

Pražské letiště vyhrálo další cenu

Mezinárodní letiště Franze Kafky v Praze získalo ocenění jako “nejvíce odcizující” letiště.   Podívejte se tady, je to celkem legrace.

Sita zpívá blues (skvěle)

Kamarád Tom nám doporučil skvělý kreslený film Sita Sings the Blues, o kterém se můžete více dozvědět a podívat se na něj tady. (anglicky)  Je tam neuvěřitelná vizualizace zlomeného srdce!  A z písničky o Ramovi jsem byl úplně hotový.  Zkoušeli jsme to streamovat, ale film se zasekával.  Tak jsme ho stáhli v komprimované verzi odtud a fungovalo to skvěle!

Sita Sings the Blues so well

Our friend Tom has pointed us in the direction of Sita Sings the Blues, a wonderful cartoon you can watch and find out more about here. I thought her visualization of heartbreak was incredible!  And the Rama song had me in stitches.  We tried streaming the movie, and it kept getting stuck.  So we downloaded a compressed version from here, and it worked great!

Věci, které znám aneb blbá ženská

Možná si řeknete, že jsem nevděčný parchant, ale když mám špatný den, zachvátí mě nostalgie po úplně prvních krůčcích v cizím jazyce, při kterých sice říkáte spoustu nesmyslů, ale jste si toho blaženě nevědomi a myslíte si, jak mohutně postupujete dopředu.  Když se dostanete do další fáze, pořád říkáte spoustu blbostí, jenomže po pár vteřinách vám to dojde a jenom bezmocně ošijete.  Dneska jsem odpoledne na francouzštině ošíval přehršel.  Například: přestože přesně vím, jak se řekne “věci, které znám,” OPĚT jsem se místo toho nazval blbou ženskou.

Calling myself a stupid woman or the things I know

Call me an ungrateful bastard but, on a bad day, I vex all nostalgic about the very early stages of learning a language when you are blisfully unaware of all the stupid things you say, and  think you’re making so much progress.  When you get to the next stage, you still say many stupid things except you wince a couple of seconds later.  Lots of wincing during my French lesson this afternoon.  For example, although I know perfectly well how to say “the things I know,” I called myself – ONCE AGAIN! -  a stupid woman.
